Babies are tested shortly after birth for
diseases and disorders. A simple heel prick and a few drops of
blood can tell if your child was born healthy. Not every state
tests for all treatable diseases. Some children live, some die
and others live a life full of pain, disabled. In some states
these same children may have lived a healthy life if only they
were tested and treated for their disease.
Our son Liam did not have the chance to live.
In November 2010, Illinois will start a
"pilot program" for newborn testing of Krabbe disease, and
state wide testing will begin in May 2011.
